New Punctuation Marks

This brief explored punctuation and if there is a need for more, with new words added to the dictionary each year why isn't punctuation keeping up with the times? Looking through writing and text, I felt that sarcasm was something that is easily lost. This began a set of new punctuation marks that are based on the action itself.

The Raised Bracket represents a raised eyebrow and used as brackets. They are designed as eyebrow shapes but on their side.

The Roll Break represents an eye roll and is used as a break (comma or full stop). They are designed around the shape of the pupil when rolling your eyes.

The Snap represents a finger click/snap and is used as an exclamation. They are designed based on the sound a finger click/snap makes.

The Intonation Exclaim represents raised intonations at the end of a sentence, used as a full stop or exclamation. They are designed as an exclamation point, but with the sound waves of a raised intonation.

The Scoff Mark represents a scoffing sound, used as a break in the sentence. They are designed to reflect the sounds made when scoffing.

The marks were then created into 6 colour print risographs, created to represent the tone and essence of the marks, loud. Repeating the same colours through the print created an overlay effect but also very strong neon colours that glow in the dark.
